Madras Law Journal, the first legal publication in India, that put Madras on the world map of judiciary through its ruthless objectivity and fearless reporting, had to sail through choppy waters in the court, particularly when the Madras High Court turned down the request for covering the proceedings of the High Court in 1892.

The Oldest Legal Journal Of India
Madras Law Journal (Civil) : Weekly Legal Journal reporting Civil Judgments
Madras Law Journal (Civil) (The Oldest Legal Journal Founded in the year 1891).

Madras Law Journal (Civil) : Weekly Legal Journal reporting Civil JudgmentsWith the Grace of God and good wishes of our trade friends this gives us immense pleasure to inform our trade friends that we have acquired in entirety MADRAS LAW JOURNAL OFFICE, MADRAS, ITS ENTIRE PUBLISHING ASSETS AS ON DATE INCLUDING PERIODICALS like “THE MADRAS LAW JOURNAL” Weekly Journal Published since 1891 and all other journals and publications of MLJ Office Madras since inception (Except ‘KALAIMAGAL’ and ‘MANJRI’ magazines published in Tamil).

At the outset we are greatful to Shri Ravi Narayanaswamy of Madras Law Journal Office, Madras (MLJ Office) the firm founded by his Father Late Shri N. Ramaratnam in the year 1891 for having reposed confidence in us and given us this great opportunity.

We have been in the field for more than five decades, always in search of the most popular authors and their master-works and have undertaken to publish them under our banner with all the skill and experience at our command to do full justice to them. If we look back in retrospect, we feel we have groomed as Law Book Publisher on our very first challenge with all possible care and pains, publication after publication ever since we entered this trade. The result every time has been very gratifying. We recall with grateful thanks the overwhelming support and patronage that we have received as unrivalled Master Publisher at the hands of the readers in the Law Publication field. This has clearly vindicated our class as publishers. And why not! We are no novices in the field. More than fifty-six years of hard work in the line has built up that experience and expertise and landed us that rare insight into the publishing art, of which we so legitimately feel proud.

Our banner “WADHWA NAGPUR” is now looked upon as hallmark of standard, quality and dependability. We feel quite confident that the stuff that would roll out from this publishing house would stand out as prestigious and different from the routine or the run-of-the mill product. We, too, to hold our own in this day-by-day growing competitive field, are always out to bring the popular works of reputed authors under our ever-widening umbrella and, believe us, like the blood-hounds, we have the sensitiveness to smell the best works in the law field. With discriminately selected of more than 200 publications to our credit, we have carved out a niche for ourselves as publishers in the eyes of our patrons that they look to us every time with new hopes and expectations. We on our part are consistently busy bettering our own records with a sense of gratitude and responsibility to our patrons. We claim no Mida’s touch in enhancing the glory of the reputed works. We attribute it to our skill, experience and expertise picked up through long decades of our dedicated involvement in the field. We are determined to scale new heights and achieve new milestones.

Our Dedication to the Founder Publisher In our onward march to new mile-stone of progress and prosperity we place on record our deepest sense of gratitude to our Founder Publisher Late Shri Chetan Das Wadhwa, who was not only the chief architect, builder and pillar of strength of these popular organisations but, was also a doyen in the publishing field. We feel honoured and privileged to have availed of his caliber and acumen to learn the art of publishing. We gratefully acknowledge the values, sizeable contribution he has made in the field of law book publishing in India. A well known personality associated for a long time with the publishing trade in India who possessed rare combination of academic and professional qualifications, had nearly three decades of experience in having great experience and in-depth knowledge on various subjects with his clear and penetrating approach dealing with the subject. We dedicate ourselves in loving and revered memory of our Great Founder and father Late Shri Chetan Das Wadhwa and our beloved mother Late Smt. Ram Piyari Wadhwa both of whom have left behind a legacy of service and dedication which, with the fragrance of their sweet memory, will always enlighten our path and keep our flag flying aloft in the law publishing world of India.

MADRAS LAW JOURNAL (CIVIL) has completed 116 years of reporting, conforming to high standards of accuracy and strict disciplines of law reporting, promptness and neat execution.
